Long before people began to speak about leaving a digital footprint I was doing just that as I believe it is important to record everything so you can have content to show off and thus strengthen your brand while also increasing your revenue. This video was done 6 years ago as part of a mastermind group, Tuesdays With Barbara. I made it a point to do interviews with as many people from this group as possible to illustrate how powerful video is and to also show that you can start with just a cell phone and work up to doing professional fully edited videos. The time is now for you to get digital with it. If you are say you are not ready for that or you can not afford that you will find yourself behind those in your industry who are using video content to build their brand and increase their revenue.
I hosted a TV Show on www.wrpbitv.com, The Anything Bucket, and I explained to potential guests how important it was to come on the show and purchase their clip. Those that came on and purchased their clip and utilized the clip as I demonstrated to them how to maximize their message did very well. I was amazed by how many people said no to being interviewed or buying their clip. Many of the people who came in didn’t understand the concept of multiple impressions and took advantage of the free interview only to be disappointed with the results. I explained that a 1 time airing to 50,000 people would not give them the results they were looking for that they really needed to purchase the clip and share it across social media platforms and on their website and even email it to potential clients. If you are a regular reader if this blog you know my commitment to The American Cancer Society Relay For Life and my many successes. In 2016 I was involved with The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Boca Raton and raised $1688.05, http://main.acsevents.org/goto/jdogg4 is my donation page for this relay. I also was involved in The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Sunrise and raised $1235.35, http://main.acsevents.org/goto/jdogg3 is my donation page for this relay. My secret to my successful fundraising was that every day I communicated and shared my story with people as to why I relay and asked for donations. In going out into the community I was able to share Relay and where the money goes and the positive impact with others. I was able to recruit a team for The Boca Raton Relay that raised $155. I share this with you to stress the importance of communication. In you business it is important to be out there in the community sharing who you are, what you do, and why people should do business with you. Over the years I have found that the facts they sell but the stories they sell. In building relationships and communicating with people on a regular basis you will have success. The more people you share with the more people know about you and the more money you can raise or the more sales you will have.

I was bit surprised when a People Lead and a Community Representative from The American Cancer Society told me that teams would not be contacted over the summer. I thought wow this goes against every rule of engagement that exists. I have  always been one to plan the work and work the plan and keep the already existing participants informed as it is proven your best client/customer or participant is someone who already exists in your data base and by keeping in constant contact and making them feel appreciated they will continue to do business with you or support your organization. Pin it 1 Like Image   As a marketing consultant with many years of media relations and public relations experience I am asked by clients on many occasions JDOGG what platform is right for me to use to maximize my message?  In today’s advertising landscape there are many choices to make and it can be quite overwhelming to business people when seeking ways to maximize their message. Navigating this landscape can be difficult especially if  you do not have a marketing, media relations, or public relations strategy. I often ask them what platforms they are using to promote their business. I get the reply I use social media. I ask them what other platforms and they look at me with a blank stare and then say I only use social media. Social Media like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram are good however including other platforms like YouTube, networking events, print media, special events,  and electronic media will aid in your quest to maximize your message.

I had an opportunity to interview Jaynie Smith about success in business and she purchased her clip and she put it on YouTube and it has 87 views this is in addition to the initial 50,000 viewers who saw her interview on www.wrpbitv.com. She has also used this on her website. The key is to find platforms that work for you and to ask questions as to where your clients and potential clients are and what they are seeking.

Tomorrow, 5/21/2015, is Red Nose Day? You may be asking what this have to do with being aware and taking action? The answer is that it is one of the many days on a calendar that will go unnoticed by the majority of people however those that are familiar with it will capitalize by going to Walgreens and getting a red nose and wearing it out in public to draw attention to themselves and thus engage people. M&M’s is a sponsor as well and will be donation $1 every time #MAKEMLAUGH is used in social media. As someone who is always marketing myself and my services I am using Red Nose Day to further my purpose to help other people excel as I have made a video which is on YouTube that I am sharing across social media platforms. I have taken a selfie of me wearing the red nose and put it upon my Twitter and Facebook Pages. Some have said people may not take you serious because of that picture. My reply is that may be true but those meant to do business with me will see that I am real and authentic and thus want to do business with me.  The idea is to be aware of opportunities that are available to you promote your business and build awareness while also driving traffic and increasing revenue.

Imagine you purchase bags of m&m’s and then sell them in your office and donate the money to RED NOSE DAY and publicize this through videos, social media, and press releases showing that you are an entrepreneur with heart who serves the community. Maybe you are a life coach and you choose to donate a portion of every session booked in May to RED NOSE DAY and you promote this across all your marketing platforms.  The idea is to leverage RED NOSE DAY so that it helps you strengthen your customer base while increasing your revenue. People like to do business with those they perceive as being charitable and heart centered.

You can do what a local realtor, Ron Contronio, did and buy a couple of cases and organize a watch party to watch The RED NOSE DAY Special on NBC  thus creating a fun way to network and help worthwhile causes. When visiting www.rednoseday.org one will see the various charities that are being supported. You could take these logos and make fliers to give out to your customers/clients to support RED NOSE DAY. You could make posters that say We Support RED NOSE DAY. Then in all your marketing material show that you support RED NOSE DAY. Leveraging support for RED NOSE DAY can increase traffic to your business and thus increase revenue.

NBC has incorporated RED NOSE DAY into several of their most popular shows like The Voice showing how important integration marketing is to the success of a business.

RED NOSE DAY is just one of several activities that you can be involved with to bring awareness to your business and thus increase your revenue. Every community now a days has a website where events are listed. Look for the events that resonate with you and fit into your marketing plan. The key is to be aware and to take action so that you are always on the top of the mind of your target audience so that when it comes time to utilize your products and services they think of you first.

I recently was made aware of several food truck round ups in my area and I went to a couple to solicit donations for Relay For Life. I did very well and was able to use my service with Relay For Life as a lead into to book guest for my TV Show, The Anything Bucket, which airs on www.wrpbitv.com on Tuesday at 6:30 PM EDT. By taking action and capitalizing on events like these I have been able to help a worthy cause and promote myself.  As a result more and more people know who I am and are more apt to do business with me. Remember people will do business with those they know, like, and trust. When someone feels good about you they will be comfortable in giving you business or recommending you to others for business.

By getting involved in the community and being aware and taking action you may be recognized with a community service award like I was and given a great platform to promote yourself. Stay Positive!!!

Vince+lombardi+quotes+determinationvince lombardi quote vince lombardi quote xpx I was working  with Forum Publishing Group selling advertising in a territory that many said was not fertile and that the businesses were resistant to advertising when I coined the concept that persistence breaks down resistance. I made it a point to visit businesses on a weekly basis to just drop of a newspaper and give them one benefit of advertising with the papers I represented. We had a program where they could do a 4  week program with a business card size ad for $99 for 4 weeks. Do you believe I still had businesses turn this opportunity down?  However I was persistent and kept going back to those who said no as I learned a no today is not a no forever.  In many cases I came across businesses that were coming from a lack mentality and making excuses not to advertise and then wondered why their business continued to be slow. I heard all the excuses like I tried that paper before and it didn’t work or I can’t afford to advertise business is slow. I would counter with what type of advertisement did you run did it have a tracking mechanism or a strong call to action or regardless if your business is busy or slow it is imperative to advertise. So many people do not understand that advertising is imperative because the more people who know about you the better chances of picking up more clients/customers.

Persistence; How to Stay Motivated Through Your Most Challenging TimesI remember talking to an owner of a hair salon and she kept saying no then one week I went by with an advertisement I designed that simply said haircuts $15 normally $20 with an expiration date of 15 days from the publishing of the newspaper. The owner said okay I’ll try the Business card special of $99 for 4 weeks. The owner did this program and had success and renewed several times.  The key is to be persistent and have something that is perceived a s a value to offer when selling products or services.

I had done this before and had some success and today was no different as I resent posts to those who hadn’t responded yet and one person visited the site and donated $25 proving that having a strategy and being persistent and consistent works. In advertising it is important to be in publications on a frequent and consistent basis so that when some is ready to take action and do business with you that they know how to connect with you. People ask me all the time JDOGG why do you continue to post about Relay For Life? I always say because you never know who will see the post and who will be ready to take action and make a donation.  In posting about Relay I create brand awareness and recognition while creating a buzz. As of today I am at $2094.61 raised because I continue to ask people for their support. By being persistent I break down resistance and thus help those touched by cancer while also promoting myself. We have all seen this icon at one time or another indicating we have mail or a direct message. Most people respond to their email with in 24 hours while most people respond to a direct message within a few minutes so one of the keys to reach your audience through an effecting advertising campaign is to use the direct message features on your social media. In being direct and having a message with a strong call to action you will increase your conversion rate and thus create more revenue while creating a buzz about your business. As you choose to be direct with your message remember to use this feature during peak hours when people you want to reach are on their social media pages. I have  found a message at 7:30 AM or 1:30 PM or 7:30 PM gets response as you are reaching people when they expect to be reached and are dedicating time to checking social media and responding accordingly.

Vancouver Relay For Life 2014 theme logo designOn Wednesday  (2/25/2015)  I went on my Facebook Page and I saw friends on-line and I sent a message about my involvement with Relay For Life and asked them to visit http://main.acsevents.org/goto/jdogg2 and to make a $5 donation. As I reached out I received 1 donation for $10 bringing my total to $2059.61. I sent out about 20 requests so to get 1 out of 20 was not bad and I received some responses that people would donate at a later time, however I know not to count on promises. I’ll take a 5% return on a marketing campaign anytime. Let’s extrapolate some number and think if 1000 direct message are sent and 5%(50) respond with a purchase of $10 each you bring in $500 and also create an awareness about your cause. The key is to have a campaign that is relevant and resonates with the recipient with a strong call to action. Remember people will buy your why fast than they buy your what..

Years ago many successful companies would bombard you with many pieces of what people affectionately called “Junk Mail” but when getting a 1% or 2% return on an investment was a good thing for these companies. Today there are several direct mail magazines that I receive in my mailbox and I physically look through them and I personally use them  to recruit guest for my TV Show, The Anything Bucket, which airs on www.wrpbitv.com on Tuesday at 6:30 PM EST.  Today in the electronic age the way we conduct business is changing and the concept of Direct Mail as now been adapted to reach potential clients/customers electronically with social media and email campaigns.  The key is to have a campaign that is relevant and give the recipient a reason to do business with you.  The ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) Ice Bucket Challenge translates into any language. As I was watching all the videos of people taking The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge I began to think about all the lessons that this teaches us and how it relates to delivering your message. What began as a way to honor and support Peter Frates, who is a former Boston College Baseball Player who was diagnosed with ALS, by raising awareness and funds for The ALS Association, www.alsa.org , has morphed into a world wide phenomenon where it seems everyone from a local coach to someone like Former President George Bush is taking the ice bucket challenge. Some  like Charlie Sheen dumped $10,000 over his head and challenged his colleagues to do the same and donate the $10,000 to The ALS Association, www.alsa.org.  Verne Troyer put a twist on it dumping milk over his head while eating a cookie.  The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has taught us that if you have the right message targeted to the right audience and utilize the right platforms  you can be very successful. In the time frame of July 29 – August 22, 2013 The ALS Association raised just under $2 million in that same time this year due to The Ice Bucket Challenge they have raised over $40 Million.

This is a question I ask all that I work with as many are just posting and spinning their wheels going in circles. The fact is that your post could be great and very engaging but only 20% of your friends are going to see it. The question is how do you combat this? The answer use the events pages and send invites, direct message those that you want to receive your message, tag as many people in posts as you can.

If you are an avid reader of this blog you know that I am passionate about my involvement with Relay For Life. I have tried all types of fundraising and doing general posts on Facebook to no avail. Today (5/21/2014) I decided to use a different approach and I went on my page and began to click on my friends and sent them this message:

I hope this email finds you having a great and prosperous day. I was hoping you could help me with an endeavor I have undertaken to create a world with less cancer and more birthdays. In 16 days I will be participating in and emceeing The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of West Boca Raton. I am walking in memory of my mother, Judith Miller, who GOD called home on July 5, 2012. She passed due to complications of a major heart attack while battling non-operable metastatic lung cancer. Over the years I have lost many friends and relatives to cancer and thus my way to honor them is to collect donations to support research, education, advocacy, and services. I have set up a page at http://main.acsevents.org/goto/jdogg1 where people can make a secure tax-deductible credit card donation. 100% of the monies raised are given to The American Cancer Society to help finish the fight while assisting those affected by cancer. As of today I have raised $1666.32 and sit as The #1 fundraiser for this relay.  I thank you for your support.

It worked as I went from $1662.32 raised to now raising $1797.00. That is a jump of $130.68 simply by using direct messaging. Now direct messaging all 2574 friends would take some time however if I choose to do 50 a day in the course of time I can reach those I desire to reach.

Navigating the social media maze can become very arduous and time consuming thus it is important to pick the top 4 or 5 platforms that work for you. In social media these are things you should know.

Engage your audience make more about them and less about you.

 Make sure your message is relevant, entertaining, and resonating. The key is to grab your audience, keep your audience, and leave the audience wanting more. If you can give your audience information that relates to your industry to help them in their buying decision that builds credibility and confidence in you and when they are ready to purchase they will come to you before they go to your competitors. If you are involved in a charity you want to have a story that rips at the heart strings so the audience is compelled to take action.

Knowing what you want the audience to do is a big part of using social media effectively. Do you want them to visit a website and give you an email address so you can send them more information. The idea is to have social media interactions lead to a conversion rate. As I stated in the example with Relay For Life if you can engage and directly engage the audience with a strong call to action you will meet with success. It is important to reach people at a cellular level so that they will support your business and your charitable endeavors. People will support those they know, like, and trust so it is important to utilize social media to establish these 3 elements.  For example people know my dedication to Relay For Life and they see that across the social media platforms and they also see the articles that have been written about the event that I was responsible for and thus when they seek a publicity person they connect with me.

 The biggest way to make social media work is to be real. People like to deal with those who they can relate to. Share stories of success and lessons learned. Ask others to share their stories.  In creating a good social media profile and being consistent across all platforms you will effectively use social media. Stay Positive.

 In business capital is key to the existence of the business. The biggest challenge I hear from those I work with is how cash strapped they are. They ask me JDOGG how can I increase my cash flow and build a solid revenue stream? My answer is find ways to be a giver. Many times they look at me with the perplexed look on their face as to say what do you mean I need money and giving things away isn’t going to help me. It is at that moment where I explain that lack mentality and a scarcity belief system is what put them in the position. I explain that it is now time to shift to an abundance mind-set and become a giver.   In any business the key is to find a way to be a giver while also being of service and value.

 In my volunteer experience with The American Cancer Society Relay For Life I have often been told no and I have heard all of the excuses why someone would not donate $1. The reason that they were struggling personally and professionally was due to the limitless beliefs they had of being a taker. A pizza place I stopped into in Boca Raton told me flat-out if I wasn’t buying his pizza he wasn’t interested. This same owner told me a year ago how he needed money and wasn’t giving anything away. As I walked out I thought he was struggling last year and this year he continues to struggle and he probably wonders why he is not reaping the benefits of having a pizza place in a high trafficked area across from the middle school. His thoughts and his attitude are holding him back. He is an example of someone who should shift from being a taker to being a giver.
